Several weeks ago, Chris Connelly, a 31 year old St. Lucie County resident went to the Emergency Room with Testicular pain. He underwent a Sonogram and was told he had a mass in his Left testicle worrisome for Testicular Cancer. The ER staff advised him to follow up with a Urologist.
Chris, then contacted multiple local Urologists in St. Lucie and Martin County. Each Urologist inquired about his Insurance Coverage, which he had recently obtained through the Obama Affordable Care Act. One Urologist in particular, asked that he pay his entire $7,000 cash deductible in advance. If the monetary burden was not enough, the earliest appointment he was able to obtain was 3-4 months. He was scared. He adds, “how could I possibly wait this long. I needed treatment now.” He took the advice of a friend and contacted Dr. Michael C. Solomon, MD. To Chris’s surprise, he was given an immediate appointment that next day.
“It was incredible,” stated Connelly. “The staff was so accommodating. They helped verify my insurance and answered all my medical questions.” It wasn’t about the money or my deductible, they stressed patient care. “That is what impressed me the most.” He saw me right away and diagnosed me with Testicular Cancer. His staff then arranged all the blood tests and x-ray studies needed to diagnose my cancer in a timely fashion. Cancer Surgery was set up within a week of my inquiry. “Dr. Solomon saved my life. If it was not for Dr. Solomon, my Testicular Cancer would have metastasized. Now hopefully I can become and remain Cancer free.
Dr. Solomon states that “Testicular Cancer is a very common cancer in young man between the ages of 18-34, and Chris falls into this age category.” With proper diagnosis and treatment the chance of cure and cancer free survival is extremely high. Dr. Solomon stressed the importance of self-examinations and the need follow up with a Urologist if any abnormality is felt in the Testicle. “Chris felt an abnormality and called my office in a timely fashion. He should have a great outcome.”
